The quiz is being tricky. There are five questions and i didn’t really know how to make it work.  i got the right answers linking to the next question, that was easy. But what to i do if you pick the wrong answer? I couldnt decide. I didnt want the button to just do nothing. I HAD IT!!! I decided that if you got a question worng, you started again!!!! Mwahaa!!! Kinda mean but whatever. if you get a question wrong it’s just more revision!

So thats that finished. QUIZ DONE!!!!

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!!!!! This makes very little sense sometimes.

I have just finished the breeds section. All done. Its separated into an intro page and then all the breeds separated onto 4 other pages. There’s 5 on 3 pages and then 2 remaining breeds on the last page. At the bottom of the page u have a “more” button to go onto the next page of breeds. I suddenly think to myself, “I should add a “back” button just incase”. i add in the back button on the first page, then. NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!!!! Nothing!!! I check the error output window and nothing there either. I check the code, its ok. I check the instance name, its ok too. There is no reason why this shouldnt work!!!!

As i’m on a strict timetable, i decided to forget about the back button and move on. I’d lose more marks for having half a website done than i would for a full one without a couple of  “back” buttons. I planned that if i had time at teh end i’d go back and look at the problem again but for now i was moving onto the quiz!!! Tough Times.

It’s been a few days since my last post. So here’s what I’ve done, I’ve nearly finished the document. All the Information architecture is written up, so is the content, navigation, references, appendices, and design.

The flash site is going quite well. I have the homepage done, the info page done and the problems done too. I have the questions ready for my quiz, i have all the links i need for the video page too.

All th ebackgrounds are done. All the images of ducks that i’m gonna use on the website are done.

All the links to the important pages are done too. They are mostly empty, but all linked up and working. So i’m happy with it so far. I have all my moviclip animations done. I only have a couple involved in the site to give it a bit more life. There are some animatons on some pages just to kinda keep peoples interest. Its not just same old, same old on every page.

This is when i started using flash!!!! And Oooooh what a rush….OF PURE ANGER!!! It’s still only a few blank pages so far with NO design or images, movieclips and only simple code. YET!!!!!! It’s crashed a couple of times in like 2 days!!!

Apart from that, it’s all going well so far. I’m making my backgrounds etc in photoshop and then importing them into flash. Its all much easier that making a website using dreamweaver and all that CSS and stuff thats also abbrieviated like Html (Which stands for “Hurry that’s my Lunch”)

But yeah, so far all i have done is separate my frames into section and giving them names and sorting out all the pages on my site. I’ve most of the photoshop backgrounds done with only a couple left to do. I have alot f my buttons made already too.

These past few days i’ve really been concentrating on the scope document.  As it counts for like 15% it wouldnt be smart to leave it till the last minute! I don’t particularly like this part of doing projects, i don’t really like writing big long essay like documents. We did one last year and it always seemed to be a nagging problem in the back of everyones neck.

But anyway, this time i started off doing the introduction. I also started work on the goals of the website and the target audience including scenario and persona.

It is becoming a slight worry in the back of my mind that i haven’t started any code yet. I havent even opened flash yet. I have read the notes form moodle just to kinda re-familiarise myself with flash and get an idea of the code i’ll be using.

But I’m sure everything will be fine……just fine.

This is just a gallery. These are some of the pictures i got of ducks that i’d use throughout my website. (Before they were photoshopped of  course)

This time i worked on the layout of teh website. I worked on Information Architecture and wireframes. The layout of the website will be a simple one as the core audience will be kids i can’t have it confusing and messy.  Seeing as the desing is a duck with a speech bubble all the content of the pages will go in these speech bubbles. The naviagtion will be a horzontal menu going down the right hand side of the page and will be present on every page. Each page will have a message on the top saying where you are on the website. I did out a tree diagram of the website. With the home page at the top and every other page linked underneath. I also did a very basic wirefram showing were everything on the site would go. All the planning is moving along really well and surprisingly quickly after the disaster of last year. I’ve uploaded the tree diagram and basic wirefame underneath.

So i had the look of the website done. Now i needed content.

So i had to research using wikipedia and other websites about ducks. I had to find out information about ducks in general, list out the breeds of duck in Ireland and what they look like and where they can be found. Research problems facing ducks, whether they be environmental or health problems to human cause problems. I had to find examples of ducks inm popular culture that kids today would know and find videos of funny or interesting things involving ducks. Having all my information together i had to create a quiz using the information i had gathered.

I also had to cut out the waffle. There was alot of information i had that wasnt really important or needed. So reviewing everything i’d gathered and cutting it down was another thing to do.

I already had my pages and site layout in my head, so knew where all the content was going but next i had to do some more in depth information architecture and mapping the site.

Some of my research links:

These are just a few of the final photoshop mock ups i’ve made to base the flash site on….

So i was back home and able to use photoshop and illustrator. So i played around on these programmes throwing photos i had together. trying to get colour schemes going, just trying to blend stuff together to see if anything fitted a duck website.

Soi was thinking where kids were likely to see ducks in Ireland. And i remember always seeing ducks by canals and lakes. So i thought why not set the website on a canal bank kinda thing. I drew it out (As i’d no photos or anything at this stage), and it looked ok. So i thought that this was the idea to go with.

So the next day, i packed my bag and took a camera and went on a walk by the royal canal. Walking form where i live in cabra to maynooth taking pictures of the canal and ducks that lived in the canal along the way, all in search for picture that i could photoshop together to make a picturesque setting in my website. And taking pictures of ducks as it would be ridiculous to have a website with not a picture of a duck in it!!!!!!

I had my pictures. I’d taken something like 450 that day. And ad to go throught them all so that the final photoshoped picture wouldn’t look it.
